The shooting @ Virginia Tech

On April 16, 2007, Seung-Hui Cho, armed with 9mm and .22 caliber handguns killed 32 students and wounded “XX” others.

A year earlier, House Bill 1572 – which was designed to prohibit public universities from making “rules or regulations limiting or abridging the ability of a student who possesses a valid concealed handgun permit from lawfully carrying a concealed handgun on campus – didn’t even get through the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety.

Passing the bill most likely would have saved lives on April 16, 2007.
What if the gunman had to face armed oppostition? What if the students were given the right to defend themselves? I can’t prove with 100% certainty that anything would have played out any different, but logic tells me there’s a very good chance that things would’ve been different.

To be clear, I’m not advocating every student should go to class armed – that’s more propaganda, what I’m getting at – as always – is you should be able to choose. You’ve already gone through the proper channels to get the license to carry, it’s not the school’s decision. If you want to exercise your right, that’s for each individual to decide.
